"The first CD was a much sparser production, focused far more on the guitar and voice," Kopper said recently. "This time I felt like I wanted to collaborate with all these wonderful musicians I met in Montana. I don't think everyone realizes the depth of musical talent that lives here." Influenced by the geography of Montana, Kopper's songs are rich and complex, yet somehow airy. Born and raised in Minnesota, at the age of fifteen Brian convinced his parents to buy him his first guitar. He developed an early appreciation for acoustic music attending live broadcasts of the Prairie Home Companion show hosted by Garrison Keillor. Prior to moving to Missoula in 1995, Brian studied in the only U.S. program for American finger-style guitar under the direction of John Stropes at the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee.
"(The combination of the three musicians) results in an eclectic mix of folk, jazz and world music that defies verbal description." - Lively Times "(Kopper) is a master songwriter and arranger, with mounds of talent as a player and a mountain of talent behind him." - Missoulian "In Absolute Motion is an entrancing tapestry of music that reels and rocks, floating aimlessly at times and soaring to incredible highs. A beautiful recording." - Missoulian Brian Kopper tours throughout the Midwest and West Coast, performing at colleges, coffeehouses and festivals, and he has performed with acclaimed national artists including Greg Brown and Lucy Kaplansky. He is known for his fluid guitar playing, creative songwriting and entertaining performances. His enthusiastic and interactive stage presence engages the audience with laughter and rich soulful music. In Absolute Motion and Dreaming of the Sun have received enthusiastic reviews and both CDs are available online at Amazon.com and at briankopper.com. |
